About

What an SE actually sees as AI rewrites the role.

Notes from someone who has to demo it tomorrow.

Why this exists

The Solutions Engineer role is in the middle of a quiet rewrite. AI tooling is changing what an SE does in discovery, in demos, in RFP responses, and in POCs. The public conversation about that change is split into two unhelpful camps: vendor marketing telling us how AI will solve everything and existential career posts telling us how AI will replace everyone. Neither voice is doing the actual work.

This blog is practitioner-first and field-informed. It is not driven by hype or fear. The goal is to write about what an SE in the trenches is going through during this AI transformation and not what thought-leaders believe is happening.

What you'll find here

The Live Journey: an ongoing chronicle of one SE's AI transformation as it happens.

Long-form pieces are grouped into four pillars: how the SE role is evolving, which skills are appreciating versus being automated, real-world workflows using AI as an SE.

Who's writing

Two decades in cybersecurity. Started as a SWE, then turned SE. Currently adopting AI in my own workflow while selling it from the same chair - both sides of the demo at once. (One-Shot Wonder is a pen name. The reps are real.)

For the record: nothing on this site is sponsored.
